More Than Just a Dive Guide

The title of this book might lead you to believe that it was simply a guide to diving in that part of Indonesia located near the Bird's Head Peninsula of West Papua. While it is indeed that, it is also much more. The book does identify a significant number of dive sites with GPS coordinates as well as a written description of each site. Having had the privilege of diving Raja Ampat with Burt and Maurine I can attest to the fact that they have identified the prime sites to visit. So, if you plan on diving there, by all means buy the book. It will enhance your experience. Beyond specific information for divers the book covers marine conservation efforts, the natural history of the area, the history of the people, and places to visit above the water. The book will be a useful reference for anyone who plans on visiting the area, whatever the motivation. Last, but definitely not least, the book highlights some of the great photography of Burt and Maurine. It would be worth buying for the photos alone.

This book is a must have for serious divers planning to travel to this area of Indonesia.The dive site descriptions are thorough,including GPS coordinates and camera recommendations.The photography is absolutely stunning.There is also information on the culture and efforts to preserve the area.Burt and Maurine's expertise provides a lively and informative guide to the Bird's Head Seascape

Not just for scuba divers

The new book by divers/photographers/writers , Burt Jones and Maurine Shimlock, not only serves as a wonderful guide to a part of the world unknown to most but also promotes the incredible beauty of Indonesia's Bird's Head Seascape. As an art gallery owner of 26 years and an avid snorkeler I have come to appreciate not only the incredible waters of Indonesia but the lush beauty of the landscape. The scenery above the water is equal in grandeur to the jaw dropping seascape beneath the the Indonesian waters. Burt and Maurine have captured this beauty in their new book as well as they present it in their unique tours of the area.
For many years I have shown Burt and Maurine's work as framed art photographs in my gallery and have had sold out slide presentations time and time again.
