The classic protestant view updated.

Edward follows and updates the reformers position on the antichrists being the popes. Since the Reformation, there is more evidence of the infiltration of the Roman Catholic church by crypto-Jews. There is more documentation that it is not just a few bad apples that are infecting the Church of Rome. Readers should be aware that there are over 140 pages of references to back up his claims. His prior books on the Anti-gospel and Bloody Zion fill in his views on the errors of Protestants also. I would love to know what Michael Hoffman and E. Michael Jones think of Edwards books. I believe there are still many Christians still in the Roman Catholic church. Perhaps they see themselves like the young Martin Luther trying to reform it from within. And they will either leave it eventually or be kicked out. Meanwhile, I believe this book will still shock many Roman Catholics. I hope they read it.

One hell of a good book.Edward Hendrie tells it like it is.I dont agree with everything he has to say when it comes to the word of the most high but as for the so called man made church system he seems spot on.

About the Author

John Hull is the Maple Financial Professor of Derivatives and Risk Management at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. A useful book for beginners on the theme

The book is a very useful book for the beginning of the theme options and futures. A reduced book from his book of Options, Futures and other Derivatives.
It begins with forwards and futures, option and hedging. He turns to the preliminaries, like yield curve, duration, interest rate future, swaps and the boundaries of options. On this basis, he develops the binomial tree and Black Scholes valuation.
All modern forms of derivatives can be valued with the classical instruments, like credit contracts, knock out derivatives and other exotic options. It is easily explained and the reader can follow it. It is a great book for beginners and for the advanced reader it is a reference book.

President Lincoln: A Pragmatist of His Times

Like many modern-day Presidents, Lincoln wasn’t bathed in a saintly glow during his Presidency. Instead, opinions of him varied widely depending on region, social class, race, and\or many other factors. During his time, feelings about President Lincoln ran deep from outright hatred to adoration. Today, it’s hard to imagine President Lincoln as anything but a virtuous man…a martyr for the cause of Abolition. However, President Lincoln had contrary views in regards to slavery. On one hand, he loathed America’s “Peculiar Institution”, but on the other hand, he wasn’t ready to do away with slavery entirely for the sake of preserving the Union.

Although an abbreviated dissertation about one of our country’s greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln by Kat Smutz is well-written and provocative, especially for those presented with an insular view of the man during long ago school days. Lincoln was a very complex, conflicted, and remarkable man—a pragmatist of his times.

Phenomenal read!!

Roberto Pieraccini's The Voice in the Machine is a phenomenal read. I found myself enjoying every single page. The writing is clear, precise, personal, folksy, with entertaining anecdotes. As I got closer to the end of the book, I became sadder and sadder, realizing that the time when I would be entertained and educated by Roberto was drawing to a close.

Mostly about developments in the speech recognition field (for completeness, Pieraccini has one chapter on Text-to-Speech), it's a very well-written, comprehensive survey of the history and current developments in speech technology.

It covers everything from the earliest attempts, through all the government-sponsored ARPA speech recognition challenges, to recent commercial deployments. The book would well serve as a reference for a college course or just for leisure reading: it's the best example I've ever seen of a book that explains concepts behind complex math, intuitively, without using a single equation. Roberto's writing style could almost be called poetic. It definitely conveys the passion behind the science. You must get this!

Good Overview

Having just completed a course in NLP, I was looking for an introduction to speech processing in order to prep for more advanced reading on the subject. Pieraccini's book was just what I needed.

The author starts out by describing in convincing detail why human speech is so complex and difficult to understand, and to recreate in a lab or a commercial setting. He then goes on to describe early attempts inspired by AI, eventually arriving at statistical approaches that are the basis of most modern speech processing systems.

I like the book in its broad coverage, and while I do realize that the book is not aimed at techies, I'd have appreciated a little more coverage of HMMs and EM.

At a handful of places, there are some editing oversights that are simply disappointing for a book from a writer of this caliber (Ch. 5: "...De Mori, who pursued a brilliant carrier first at McGill..." -- career, not carrier).

Nonetheless, the book is a good read for someone interested in this technology.

Fantastic overview of the speech biz

As someone who has been in the speech industry for quite some time, I can tell you this book is a terrific starting point for business people and students alike. Pierracini's great anecdotes are what makes this so enjoyable. Whether it's HAL 9000 or Victor Hugo he is employing to convey his point, the author makes learning enjoyable.

But from then on. free blacks experienced a steady decline in status that continued throughout the antebellum period. Legal restraints were placed on them at the same time that Norfolk's economy stagnated. and white immigrants arriving in the 1830s entered fields once monopolized by blacks. By the 1850s the free black community was sunk in hopelessness and despair.

Free Blacks in Norfolk, Virginia, 1790-1860 discusses the active roles that blacks played in creating their community, contradicting prevalent images of free blacks at the mercy of whites. While previous studies of Virginia's free blacks have focused on Richmond or Petersburg, developments in Norfolk's free black community also merit analysis. Norfolk also offers the advantage of a population large enough to provide a reliable data base yet small enough to preserve the stories of individual lives. Those interested in African-American history, Virginia history, orthe South in general will find this book a valuable new resource.

Second Time Around

Just when you think a topic is not worth pursuing, a little light bulb comes on that pushes one to take the next step. Free Blacks in Norfolk Virginia 1790-1860: The Darker Side of Freedom examines social history with respect to free slaves. Tommy L. Bogger offers a different kind of scholarship, which involves manumission, slaves paying their way to freedom. Bogger continues research on the issue of post-slavery before the Civil War that scholars neglected in the past. As the subtitle states, "The Darker Side of Freedom", is indeed a true fallacy that Bogger emphasizes throughout the book that involves remnants of enslavement and the lack of opportunity that remained prevalent for those who attempted to live and financially prosper in the city of Norfolk. Literally, they lived in the "shadows" from their white neighbors despite the fact that they were skilled and educated workers. Bogger goes through the evolution of change for Blacks in Norfolk from vibrant optimism to a sense of letdown. For the most part, they too experienced the economic woes that occurred in the city and the influx of European immigrants arriving in the United States who wanted to start a new life as well. Ironically, this dilemma eventually led them to flee the North or further to the South to pursue a better life where they could build and actively participate in communities of their own, which would also contribute to American society as a whole.

The concluding chapters presents much insight to the dwindling situation that Blacks experienced during the nineteenth century. Bogger shows how death and disillusionment took a toll amongst Blacks, and to add to their uncompromising situations, the Yellow Fever epidemic in 1855 occurred, which left thousands dead. However, what is so surprising is that less Blacks died from the disease because their access to free vaccinations.

Overall, Free Blacks in Norfolk is well researched and documented. Bogger takes much of his accounts from unbiased court documents, but it would have been more helpful if there were more authentic voices within his narrative.

This is a Fun Read for Any Age!

The story seems simple on the surface, but reading just the text is like scratching the surface! Every incredible illustration is surrounded by a challenging riddle. I've yet to figure out the entire puzzle, but if you do you can win a silver Tasmanian tiger, (the gold one has been claimed already.) I highly recommend it!
