Don't Bother

While the subject matter is there, the only reason to download this version, other than it is free, is that it says it has the illustrations by DuLac. It doesn't. Nor does it have any TOC or pagination. Spend another buck or two, and get one that does!

My old standby

I discovered the Rubaiyat when I was a junior in high school many decades ago. I stumbled on it in a poetry book our English teacher made us read. I took that book with me through four years in the military. I read it in the cockpits of KB-50s, on Wake Island beaches, and kept a copy wherever I went in the world. When times got really dark for me, Omar poked a hole through it all and let in enough light to get me through. I won't say it is my bible but, for me, it clarifies everything. Some people say it is anti-religion and too obsessed with drinking and "living for the moment", but they obviously haven't read the quatrains about the pottery and the potter. There is a basic truth to the Rubaiyat that I turn to in dark times. I have copies on all my computers, iPads, iPhones, iPods, in my office and in my libraries. When I get tense or geared up for a big transaction, I'll read a few of my favorite quatrains, calm down, and try to enjoy the experience. Omar has been there through deaths, divorces, illnesses, and failures. For me this is a five-star read and the book is a steal.

An Excellent Companion Gift!

I bought this book, along with the Rainstick Kit (available in Toys). It was a Christmas gift for a friend's child. She was able to read the book to learn about rainsticks. At the end of the book, it gave her instructions to make her own rainstick and she also make one from the Rainstick Kit. The story in the book was beautifully told and the pictures and colors were breathtaking. This is an excellent gift idea for someone who likes to both read and do. It is educational and fun and is a great gift idea!

I microscopic print of one of the best philosophical texts ever

The work itself is inarguably the best version of Lucretius, and that would be an automatic 5 stars. Unfortunately, the size of the thing is so small, it borders on being a prank. It's 5x7" and the text appears 3-4pt font, which is barely larger than a pharmaceuticals insert you get with medicine. It really seems like Oxford University Press is telling us all, "we have the best of the best in Latin, and we're the only source, so we can totally give you the middle finger, and you'll still be back for more. So go buy a magnifying glass and shut up about it." The size of this book is an insult to the reader.
