Business is unlimited in the KOG!

Business Unlimited is a self account of Gunnar Olson's walk with God through his career and business and clearly paints a picture of how his walk affected himself and his family. After reading the book, I can see clearly that Gunnar was a ordinary person, who because of his faith to walk with God, embarks in a lifelong extraordinary journey. Through Gunnar's obedience, God not only changes him, but his family, friends, business, church, community, towns, and nations. Who would have thought that a man who came from such a broken family could have such impact? The hope that his story gives to believers who want to make a Kingdom impact in and through their business is basically that it can be done. The choice that Gunnar made early in his life and career, to trust God with "all his mind, soul and strength" enabled God to be able to use him to further the Kingdom.

Gunnar is realistic when he recounts his life's walk. He does not only account all the great things that happened, but also paints a picture where the reader can see his own personal internal struggle for decisions he had to make in following God's will. He recounts the sacrifices God has asked him to make such as giving away all his savings when he was about to start his own company, but God always provided for him. By taking a small step of faith little by little in his business decisions and choices, God gave Gunnar more than he could have ever imagined if he were to do things himself. When projects and plans did not go right, Gunnar shows time and time again of God's grace, favor and power in any situation. Gunnar also shows us that everything that happens is part of a bigger plan and destination, that his business endeavors and contacts would lead him to found his ministry.

I have always wanted to start my own business and run a company where I could further the Kingdom. Reading Gunnar's story I can see how he and his business was used by God. How can I position myself in a way that God can use me to impact those around me, then a community and nation? I know that God has plans for me, to prosper me and to give me a hope and a future, but there are many areas in my life I still have to grow in in order for me to get to a point where I can truly walk with God without fear or hinderence. Regardless of how I feel about my current state, I know God will use me in spite of myself, so all I can do is to "Go" and take little steps of faith.

The take away from Gunnar's account is that business can be unlimited, and that it encourages us to want that in our life, business and career because we all can live an extraordinary life too! I want to see how God will use my future business in his plans!

Three years in Tristan da Cunha

Interesting to get a feel for the way the world looked to everyday people more than 100 years ago. Viewed as a story, though, the book is quite inconclusive. The reproduced edition did not include the figures and photographs from the original, which was a loss.

Quite an absorbing Book

The only reason I did not give this book five Stars it it was supposed to be Illustrated and, sadly, it was not. I found it very interesting. To exist on a small Island ,over 1500 miles from anywhere, and with a population of only 74, one had to be tough. One soul died while chopping logs for his fir. He was 106! To find that the ferocity of the wind meant that all dwellings had four foot thick walls was qite a shock.
There is a bit of religion in the content, as the Book was written by a Missionary's wife. Though a cannot claim to be religious, there was no "Bible Bashing" as such.
This was a Kindle download and I will more than likely read it again

What I thought would be an interesting book about the culture and the life of the inhabitants turned out to be just a collection of diary entries by a woman who could care less about those things. I couldn't even finish reading it--it was really boring.

About the Author
Ryan McGlen is Senior Advanced Technologies Engineer at Thermacore Europe Ltd. where he leads research and development of future heat pipe technologies. Current research interests include novel heat pipe materials and working fluids combinations and additive layer manufacture of aluminium heat pipes with complex 3D Sintered Style wicks (SSHP).

Peter Kew first became involved in heat pipes in the late 1970s as a research officer with International Research and Development working on a range of heat transfer and energy conservation projects, including heat pipe development which was then led by David Reay. He has maintained this interest for over 20 years as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at Heriot-Watt University researching evaporative heat transfer. Currently Dr Kew is Associate Head of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University responsible for the School’s activities on the Dubai Campus of the University.

David Reay manages David Reay & Associates, UK, is a Visiting Professor at Northumbria University, Researcher at Newcastle University, and Honorary Professor at Nottingham University, UK. His main research interests are compact heat exchangers, process intensification, and heat pumps. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Applied Thermal Engineering and Author/Co-author of eight other books, including the second edition of Process Intensification published in 2013.

I bought this book to come up to speed on heat pipes and find out whether the theory and manufacturing techniques apply to a different problem I am working on. Thanks to the clearly written material which overviews the theory and applications I found it easy to come up to speed. But the best part for me was the practical orientation, especially the discussion of material compatibility and manufacturing techniques, where lots of data was included, with citations to the original work if you want to go in more depth. Overall I was very happy I bought this book.

In 1978, when the first edition of The Truman Years was published, it was the fourth volume in the Facts On File Presidential Profiles series. Twenty-seven years later it has been revised with up-to-date information on the people covered in the original volume.

There are more than 400 biographies of politically significant individuals from the Truman presidency. Included are people who worked in his administration, prominent congressional representatives and senators, Supreme Court justices, and state and local people who were influential on a national level. Also included are civil rights, business, and union leaders as well as journalists. An introductory essay gives a good overview of Truman's years as president.

Each entry lists birth and death (if applicable) years and the individual's title and discusses the person's career (particularly during 1945-1952) and major accomplishments. Significant revisions have been made in most of the biographies. A notable addition is an entry for Elizabeth Virginia Wallace Truman, Harry Truman's wife. Other individuals included are Dean G. Acheson, Thomas E. Dewey, W. Averell Harriman, George C. Marshall, Dean Rusk, and Margaret Chase Smith.

See references point the reader to other series volumes in which a person may have an entry. A chronology lists such events as the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the establishment of the Central Intelligence Group (forerunner of the CIA), and the explosion of the first hydrogen bomb. Principal U.S. government officials are listed, including Supreme Court justices and key people in the executive department and regulatory commissions and independent agencies. Other appendixes list members of the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and governors. Sixteen primary documents were selected for inclusion, among them the Potsdam Declaration (July 26, 1945), the Truman Doctrine (March 12, 1947), and the Marshall Plan (June 5, 1947). The volume also includes a selected bibliography and an index.
